Overview
This particular form of journalism uses images to tell a news story. Nowadays, it refers almost exclusively to still images, but sometimes to video as well. Photojournalism works closely with other forms of journalism to help express the narrative of a story. Photojournalism is the embodiment of the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words".
It effectively fills in the gaps that written word can leave behind or can replace them completely. Photojournalism does what words do, but with photographs. Sometimes it only takes one photograph to capture and describe a single moment or entire situation, simultaneously. This simultaneous depiction of moment and situation is the power of photojournalism.
It is life through a lens.

In Today's Media ...
With a huge movement from printed content to the Internet and multimedia as well as the industry-wide consoldation of resources, a "one trick pony" is now longer the norm. More and more news outlets are requiring their correspondents, photographers, and videographers to multitask rather just write, shoot stills, or shoot video alone.
My work with Catholic media has given me the experience and ability to provide photography, articles, and multimedia presentations for the same event/story. The experience has improved workflow efficiency and adaptibilty for each assignment and medium. Publishing to various mediums has been my experience since 2003.
The dawn of digital photography and digital image manipulation has hurt the credibility of photojournalism as an accurate depiction of news events. Unethical photojournalists have defrauded the public and embarrassed their organizations by "doctoring" their images or post-processing an image outside accepted industry ethics. As a member of the National Press Photographers Association, Region 6, I adhere to the ethical guidelines accepted throughout the journalism industry. This helps ensure that the photograph is what it is.
Additionally, I have a certification from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, Italy on covering the Catholic Church, specifically during Pope Benedict XVI's pontiff. This augments my abilities to provide informed reporting as well as augmenting my photographs whenever covering the Holy See.
